The dry leaves start to give off a rich, verdant aroma when they hit the hot porcelain gaiwan. Broth has a bright jade-gold color and thick oily sheen. Fragrance of the brewed tea is bright and umami with buttery pastry notes holding it down, lemony citrus punching through followed by softer florals as it develops and changes. Broth is buttery and thick at first then a mineral feel takes over, eventually reaching yo the throat and offering a pleasant salivation. Textures are complex and dynamic. Long lingering aftertaste both in fragrance and mouthfeel.

A powerful, nimble and complex tea. Plenty of subtlety but lots of bass behind it too. We love it!

Note there are two photos. The second photo is actually this year’s tea if you would like to take a look. The leaves really are quite beautiful. I took it on my iPhone, though, so it’s not as pretty. Which is why I’m leaving the previous photo up until I get home to take a good one!
